COVID-19 has affected all Americans regardless of race, class and geography—but has also underscored the long-standing health disparities that preceded and persisted during the pandemic.

On May 17, 2022, Washington Post Live held a series of conversations about solutions to close the vaccine access gap and how vaccine inequities worldwide have raised the stakes in preparing for future global health crises. The guest speakers included two BCHC members (listed first):

  • LaQuandra S. Nesbitt, MD, director of the District of Columbia Department of Health
  • Cheryl Bettigole, MD, health commissioner of Philadelphia
  • Atul Gawande, MD, USAID assistant administrator for global health
  • Cameron Webb, MD, White House senior policy advisor for equity
