Background

Across the United States, municipalities, elected bodies, and administrative agencies are integrating processes and tools to examine how policy decisions can lead to racial and other inequities.

Importantly, they’re adjusting those decisions to prevent those inequitable outcomes.

Together with Human Impact Partners, we created an Equity Lens Tool for health officials and their staffs to use in the context of COVID-related decision making.

With this tool, we hope health departments can ensure all policy decisions are made with equity as the priority.

Implementation

Our aim is to provide a tool that is flexible, adaptable, and efficient, and that involves communities who are most affected by COVID-19 and the proposed decision in the process. We encourage health departments to follow these steps in conducting their assessment.
