The Big City Health Coalition is made of up of 30 of the largest, most urban city and county health departments in the nation. Local health officials and their staff are the first line of defense against threats to the public’s health, from responding to infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, or man-made ones, to battling chronic conditions, such as asthma, addiction and obesity. Our members practice disease prevention, and help to create healthier, more vibrant cities. This means leading initiatives like vaccinating those most at-risk, making healthy food choices the easy option, and advocating for policy change that make their communities healthy and safe.
