Heidi Ritchie, MAL, BSN
Heidi Ritchie was appointed as Interim Health Commissioner for the City of Minneapolis and has served in that position since January 1, 2022. While Heidi was new to the Minneapolis Health Department, she was not new to the City nor to the health profession. She is a Public Health Certified Registered Nurse and has worked in the City of Minneapolis for over 16 years, most recently as Policy and Budget Director for Mayor Frey’s, where she has helped shape health policy and the City’s response to the pandemic. Heidi has been a leading voice in throughout the city enterprise in the development and advocacy of policies on public health, environmental health, mental health, and youth and adolescent health.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Heidi is also an emergency responder for the Hennepin County Medical Reserve Corps and has completed certifications and trainings for FEMA emergency response, mental health de-escalation, end-of-life nursing, as well as courses in opioid use disorder, substance abuse in women/during pregnancy, and sustainability and environmental stewardship in Public Health. She holds a Master’s in Leadership Administration from Augsburg University as well as Bachelor’s in political science, international relations, and nursing.
