Dennis Worsham is the appointed Interim Director of Public Health — Seattle & King County, a metropolitan health department of 1,500 employees. Public Health serves the more than two million residents of King County, Washington. It is the 9th largest local health department by population in the country. It provides a full complement of public health services including epidemiology, communicable disease control, environmental health services, jail health services, emergency medical services coordination and delivery, medical examiner services and a county-wide community health center system.

Prior to his role as Interim Director, Dennis led the department’s Prevention Division, which delivers communicable disease prevention and health promotion services including infectious disease investigation, the tuberculosis, sexually transmitted disease, and vaccine preventable immunization programs, Vital Statistics, and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, among other programs and services. Prevention Division has a key role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in King County, including leading efforts in data informatics and analytics, contact investigations, and immunizations.

Dennis has nearly 30 years of experience in public health, policy development and advocacy. Dennis previously served as the Deputy Secretary for Health at the Washington State Department of Health, and various positions at Public Health – Seattle & King County including Chief of Staff, Chief of Policy, Community Partnerships, and Communications, Regional Health Officer, and TB Control Program manager. Dennis was also the HIV/STD/Hepatitis Program manager at Snohomish Health District, where he also was a health educator for several years.

Dennis has had roles on public health committees and commissions, including as a committee member with Leadership Tomorrow, as President and Vice-President of the Washington State Public Health Association (WSPHA), and as Chair and member of the Washington State Public Health Roundtable, among many others.
