SAN FRANCISCO PASSES PAID FAMILY LEAVE ORDINANCE
San Francisco’s Paid Parental Leave Ordinance took effect on January 1, 2017. It provides full wage coverage for employees already receiving partial-wage benefits for parental leave under California’s state-wide Paid Family Leave law. San Francisco’s ordinance requires employers to make up the difference between state benefits and wages so that employees receive their full wages. This ordinance will be phased in for different size employers through January 2018.
