New York City’s 3-K for All initiative, launched in fall 2017, aims to bring 3-K to every community school district in NYC. As of 2017, programs are active in two school districts, and the city has plans to add two additional districts each year, through 2020. In fall 2017, 86% of applicants from the two districts that have programs were accepted into the program. 3-K for All builds on Pre-K for All, an initiative to provide Pre-K for 4-year-olds in NYC that, “more than tripled the number of four-year-olds enrolled in free, full-day, high-quality Pre-K”. Currently, all NYC families can apply for the 3-K for All program, but those who live in the districts where the program is located have priority.
