Chicago City Council unanimously approved a paid sick leave ordinance that went into effect in July 2017. It requires all employers in the city to provide at least 5 paid sick days per year to all employees. The City of Chicago lauds this ordinance as being “more business friendly” than those in other cities with only a small cost to employers. Chicago joined 26 other cities that have paid sick leave laws.
