BOSTON SEEKING BUREAU DIRECTOR, HOMELESS SERVICES

The Boston Public Health Commission is seeking a Bureau Director for the Department's Homeless Services Bureau. The Director will oversee over two adult emergency shelters, provide leadership, leverage collaborative opportunities, and serve as an active member of the BPHC senior leadership team. DETROIT SEEKING DEPUTY DIRECTOR, POPULATION HEALTH

The Detroit Health Department is seeking a Deputy Director of Population Health to oversee key parts of the Health Department's programmatic areas including: Maternal and Child Health, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, Lead Screening, and others. NEW! PHWINS 2017

This fall, ASTHO, in partnership with and funding from, the de Beaumont Foundation, will field the 2017 Public Health Workforce Interest and Needs Survey (PH WINS). The BCHC team hopes to have participation from all Big Cities Health Coalition member departments to help inform future investments in workforce development, build on the baseline of key workforce development metrics, and better understand workforce attitudes, morale, and climate. BOSTON PUBLIC HEALTH COMMISSION MEDICAL DIRECTOR OPENING

The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is seeking a Medical Director to work closely with the Executive Director and the Deputy Director, to establish priorities and manage the on-going work of the Commission. The Medical Director reports directly to the Executive Director and is a member of the senior leadership team.


AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION LETTER ON AMERICAN HEALTH CARE ACT

Patrice Harris, BCHC Alumna and former Health Director of Fulton County, shared this letter from the American Medical Association(AMA) to Congress. The letter outlines AMA's views on the American Health Care Act and the importance of maintaining insurance coverage for over 20 million Americans who currently have health care coverage under the existing Affordable Care Act.

MEMBER MEETING MATERIALS

The BCHC in-person winter meeting will take place Monday, February 27, 2017 and Tuesday, February 28, 2017. We will have a joint Hill Day with NACCHO Board Members and the SACCHOs on Wednesday morning, March 1, 2017. You should plan to arrive in DC by 12 noon on Monday and depart after 1 pm on Wednesday. All travelers will need to enter the code 402201 when the travel authorization code is asked for. Travelers will also need to select the meeting name “NACCHO MISC Travel.”

MAKING YOUR CASE FOR PREVENTION AND PUBLIC HEALTH FUND

As we prepare to defend the Prevention and Public Health Fund (PPHF) as a key public health provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), we need as many BCHC members as possible to undertake a host of grassroots advocacy activities, ranging from outreach to Congressional offices, to sharing testimonials with BCHC staff, to writing op-eds, and talking to members of the media.

BCHC WORKFORCE RESEARCH PROJECT SUMMARY

BCHC has convened an advisory committee of subject matter experts in public health practice and workforce research and training to further assess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of public health professionals in big city governmental health departments. Moving forward, BCHC will synthesize the quantitative and qualitative data, as well as findings from the in-person meeting. Results will be disseminated to BCHC members and the public health community through release of the report and/or other complementary publications, webinars, and presentations at relevant meetings.
