From 2009 to 2013 Baltimore’s teen pregnancy rate dropped by a third. They use a multi-pronged approach that includes education, peer counseling, access to long-term birth control, and a program to get teens thinking about the future (U Choose). They focused on at-risk communities and used social media and “guerrilla” marketing to direct teens to engage with their website and services at community centers. The program includes a Youth Advisory Council to ensure ideas and messages are relevant and a social marketing campaign through U Choose to empower youth and provide information in a fun way.
